STUTTGART: A short trip at the weekend, a quick drive to a store or moving: there are plenty of reasons for borrowing a car at short notice on a private basis. But parents or friends may be reluctant to hand over their car to an additional driver who is not included in their insurance policy, because any damage could prove costly.
Help is at hand in such situations in the form of CoverOn, a new digital insurance solution developed by Daimler Insurance Services and supported by Allianz as the insurer.
CoverOn, the new short-term insurance for all makes of vehicle, provides an easy way of insuring additional drivers. Flexible insurance terms are available, starting from 30 minutes up to 27 days. An integral component is the CoverOn roadside assistance, which offers customers various forms of assistance in the event of a breakdown or accident.
The booking and payment processes are entirely digital via smartphone while on the move or at home.
"With CoverOn, we are making a further step towards to mobility by enabling private journeys to be insured as simply and flexibly as possible," said CEO Daimler Insurance Services Dr Ingo Telschow.
CoverOn is also suitable for test drives taken at a dealership. Here, the short-term insurance reduces the excess for any claims relating to test drives.
"With CoverOn we are able to offer an innovative insurance coverage in cooperation with Daimler Insurance Services. The flexible short-term insurance is in keeping with modern-day requirements. As such, it fits into our portfolio of innovative and digital products," said Allianz Automotive CEO Dr Claudius Leibfritz.
CoverOn would be introduced in additional countries soon.
