It keeps the 6-litre V12 that makes the hard top so exhilarating but adds magnesium inlet manifolds, and magnesium torque tube plus a titanium exhaust system for better engine breathing, and therefore performance, but also to cut weight.
Chopping the roof - a critical structural component - off a seriously taut, seriously fast car can have a catastrophic impact on its performance, handling and safety. But Aton's bespoke customisation department, Q by Aston Martin, has reworked the suspension to ensure this car behaves like it looks.
And it looks like no other production Aston Martin Vantage to date thanks to the fact that it is literally festooned in unique carbon fiber body panels that up the aerodynamics and the visual drama, from the engine bulge in the hood, along the vehicle's sides via re-imagined door skirts and through to a more prominent rear bumper/diffuser.
What's more, it will always look like no other Vantage convertible. The owner, reportedly one of Aston Martin's best clients, has paid a further premium to make certain that Q can never recreate this car for anyone else.
Aston Martin president and CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: "The Vantage GT12 Roadster is a hugely exciting project. Not just because it's sensational to look at, but because it vividly demonstrates the expanded capabilities of Q by Aston Martin."
Like a number of premium automotive marques, Aston Martin is investing more and more in customisation and bespoke services partly to meet growing client demands and partly to counter the competition from companies like Mansory, by offering similar tuning and bodywork services but in a way that stays true to Aston Martin's original design vision.
In recent years Q by Aston Martin has been responsible for a growing number of limited edition and bespoke cars including the Vulcan, the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf and of course the limited edition hyper car the One-77.
"In just nine-months we took a customer's dream and realised it, with a fully-formed, exactingly engineered and fully road-legal one-off. That is the essence of the Q by Aston Martin service," said David King, Vice President and Chief Special Operations Officer.
