It's 'EyesOn' which carmaker picks up an award

DETROIT: BMW's latest seventh generation 5 Series recently picked up its first of probably many other accolades to come after having receiving the Best Designed User Experience Award from EyesOn Design.

With a starting price of US$51,200 (RM250,000) plus destination and handling, the new 5 Series will be in U.S. dealerships in February.

The EyesOnDesign Awards are the officially-sanctioned design awards for the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), honouring the best production and concept vehicles making their worldwide auto show debut in Detroit.

The all-new BMW 5 Series won the judges votes with its new user interface which comprises of the iDrive 6.0, BMW Gesture Control, latest generation Head-Up Display, Remote 3D View and an improved Voice Control with natural voice input.

The new BMW 5 also comes with a host of innovations such as the Remote Control Parking and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.

“BMW has long been a pioneer in advanced Human Machine Interface (HMI) technologies and the new 5 Series brings together everything we have learned in our 100 year history,” said BMW (North America) president and CEO Ludwig Willisch.

Nissan Vmotion 2.0
Other EyesOn Design awards include best concept car which went to Nissan's Vmotion 2.0 that showcases the Japanese  carmaker's new sedan design direction. It was also awarded the best innovative use of colour, graphics and materials.

The Vmotion 2.0 is the evolution of the “V-motion” front design signature that's seen on many current Nissan products.




“Vmotion 2.0 offers a stunning look into the future of Nissan design – fresh and dynamic, yet cabin-focused,” said Nissan Motor Co. (Nissan Global Design Strategy) executive design director Mamoru Aoki.

The award for best production went to the KIA Stinger fastback sedan thanks to its combination of sporty muscular appearance, performance and luxury.

“We’ve made a lot of great cars and I’m proud of all of them, but the Stinger is something special,” said Kia Motors chief design officer Peter Schreyer.

Taking the best interior design was the fifth-generation Lexus LS 500 flagship sedan, which embodies Japanese tradition and culture to exceed its customers' expectations.

"The designers took the approach of starting from new, reimagining what a flagship should be, as if launching the brand all over again.  The goal was to exceed expectations of our luxury customers." said Lexus LS chief designer Koichi Suga.
