LONDON: Jaguar is the latest company to be taking the safe step towards electric mobility with hybrid engines, and is launching an updated F-Pace with almost nothing but hybrid options.

The off-roader will continue to run on internal combustion engines, but according to the manufacturer, almost all of these will be upgraded to mild hybrids with 48-volt technology when the new models arrive in the first half of 2021.

A new plug-in hybrid will also be added to the top of the range. The closest to pure electric driving is the pricier F-Pace P400e, which adds an electric motor to the 2.0-litre petrol engine.

According to Jaguar, this increases the system output to 404 horsepower. Because the battery supplies power for up to 59 kilometres, the standard consumption is reduced to 2.4 litres (54 g/km CO2).

You'll be able to follow how this part-time electric distributes the work between the different sources of power in a new cockpit with digital instruments and a larger touchscreen including online navigation and real-time infotainment.

The mild hybrids to choose from are two four-pot diesels with 2.0 litre displacement and 163 or 204 horsepower. A 3.0-litre diesel produces 300 hp with six cylinders. There's also a new six-pot petrol engine with 3.0 litres displacement and 400 hp.

For old-school drivers, the only conventional combustion engine without electric assistance is the basic petrol engine as a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 250 hp. This gives the F-Pace fuel consumption figures of between 5.2 litres with a diesel (137 g/km) or 8.9 litres with a petrol (202 g/km).

Prices for the facelifted SUV will start at €54,166 (RM265,000) in Europe, Jaguar says.
