JPJ offering 70% discount on compoundable summonses to mark anniversary

PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is offering a 70% discount on 3.5 million compoundable summonses, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"The discount offer will be valid for two months starting April 13 till June 13," he told reporters at JPJ's 75th anniversary celebrations here today.

He noted that the discount would benefit motorists who have been unable to renew their driving licences or road tax after being blacklisted by JPJ for unsettled summonses.

"For example, with the discount, a motorist will only have to pay RM45 to settle a RM150 summons.

"This will allow the individual's name to be taken off the JPJ blacklist," he said.

Dr Wee also announced the issuance of a special "FD" vehicle registration plate to mark the department's anniversary.

He said bidding for the Putrajaya registration plate numbers would be open for only five days.

"Members of the public may bid for the plate numbers through JPJ's eBid portal beginning today (April 12).

"Bidding will close at 10pm on April 16 with results to be made known 24 hours after that," he added.

Dr Wee expects the two-letter FD numbers to be popular, and particularly symbolic to those keen on growing their fixed deposit savings.

Earlier in his speech, Dr Wee said RTM1 would be airing a 13-episode drama series entitled Skuad JPJ soon.
