PETALING JAYA: Visitors to the Nov 23-Dec 2 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 (KLIMS’18) will be able to check out a variety of commercial vehicles apart from a whole range of passenger vehicles, concept cars, exotic cars and motorcycles.

The 9th edition of the show will feature an autocade of commercial vehicles that meets the needs of businesses. Commercial vehicles are defined as trucks, prime movers, pick-ups, panel vans and buses.

"To support the economic engines of Malaysia, commercial vehicles are an important component in the supply chain," said Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) president Datuk Aishah Ahmad.

"KLIMS’18 will present a range of commercial vehicles for the business sector and the general public to explore the exciting possibilities of people and goods movers.”

Isuzu will be highlighting the 1.9-litre BluePower Diesel Engine, its latest breakthrough in diesel engine technology.

"This newly designed small displacement and high-power engine, is Isuzu’s solution to meet strict environmental standards with great pulling power," said Isuzu Malaysia COO Masayuki Suzuki. "The engine is also fuel efficient."

Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, will promote its Tata Super Ace small pick-up, Ultra trucks and Prima prime mover. Tata Motors tout the vehicles as having superior performance, world-class cabins, high load carrying capacity and flexible body-load configurations.

MSM Metal Industries Sdn. Bhd, a metal engineering company and mobile food truck fabricator, aims to make a big impact at the show. The company is building a 20-foot high robot named “Tanker” from metal and automotive parts which will be showcased for the first time in Malaysia at KLIMS’18.

“Tanker is a project that is the first of its kind our engineers are building, using scrap metal and automotive parts found in our factory," said MSM Metal Industries CEO Charles Chan.

Chan said the robot would help promote the company's range of services, which includes OEM contract manufacturing for kitchen appliances and equipment.

According to the latest MAA data, new commercial vehicles registered in Malaysia for the first half of 2018 (year-to-date at June 2018) recorded 28,671 units while commercial vehicles produced and assembled in Malaysia for the first half of 2018 recorded 19,623 units.

In 2017, the total sales and production of commercial vehicles total stood at 61,956 (registered) and 40,081 (produced and assembled) respectively. Production volumes are expected to increase in 2018 to keep up with demand.

The increase in demand for commercial vehicles is fuelled by the versatility of pickup trucks and the haulage capabilities of trucks and prime movers for long-distance transport tasks. OEMs are taking advantage of this trend by offering multiple variants and facelift models. The automobile industry is also making commercial vehicles more environmentally friendlier, economical and safer.

Organised by MAA, KLIMS’18 will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur. This year's show theme is “Beyond Mobility”.  The 10-day show, which is making a comeback after a five-year hiatus, is expected to attract over 350,000 visitors.
