SEOUL: Dodge recently unveiled it latest - perhaps even greatest, Viper ACR (American Club Racing) that's been equipped with Kumho's ultra-high performance tyres complete with the ACR logo embossed on the sidewall.

The Viper ACR is essence a track car that’s now street-legal and comes with significant aerodynamic (one tonne at 285kph) and adjustable Bilstein suspension upgrades with the front springs rated at 600 pounds per square inch and the rears at 1,300 pounds per square inch.

The brakes are a set of two-piece carbon-ceramic rotors measuring 15.4-inch with six-pot callipers (front) and 14.2-inch with four-pot callipers (rear) from Brembo.

Kumho has fitted with the Viper ACR’s 19-inch wheels with a bespoke set of Ecsta V720 tyres measuring 295/25 (front) and 355/30 (rear), and according to Dodge this set up provides the largest combined contact patch of any production car.

With a unique tread pattern and compound for the tyres, the Korean tyre maker claims that it is able to sustain cornering loads of up to 1.5g and achieve lap times of up to 1.5sec faster than dedicated race tyres during back-to-back tests.

The Viper ACR is powered by a naturally aspirated 8.4-litre hand-built all-alloy V10 engine that’ll dish out 645bhp and 813Nm of torque that’s managed by a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission before reaching the massive rear tyres.

According to Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, their goal is to provide enthusiasts with the ultimate Viper track car that’s able to dominate road courses around the world.

“This car is not a 1-3 lap track special. You can run it all day without any tail-off in performance,” he added.

The latest Dodge Viper ACR costs US$122,490 (RM440,000) and follows in the footsteps of its predecessor and its lap record of 7mins 12.13sec around the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.
