PETALING JAYA: The Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder, which made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, is finally here.
It was unveiled at Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur's main showroom in Glenmarie today, with a tentative retail price of RM1.35mil excluding duties.
The Huracan Coupe was launched in August last year, priced at RM2.1mil with taxes included. Going by the logic that the Spyder version is usually 10% more, the selling price after tax of the Huracan Spyder is likely to be RM2.31mil.
The unit on display is a prototype that is making its rounds in Asia. Malaysia is the second stop after Hong Kong 10 days ago, and the supercar will head to Singapore next. Series production of the Huracan Spyder is expected to start by the first quarter of 2016 and availability in Asia will be from next April.
The Huracán Spyder is an electrohydraulically operated lightweight soft top variant of the highly successful Huracan coupe. The top can be opened in 17 seconds while driving at speeds of up to 50kph.
The Huracán’s aluminum and carbon fiber hybrid structure provides high torsional stiffness for an open top car - an improvement of 40% over its Gallardo predecessor, promising supercar handling and agility.
Combined with the highly emotive 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 which generates 610hp at 8,250rpm and a maximum torque of 560Nm at 6,500 rpm, the Spyder achieves a top speed of 324kph, with acceleration figures of 0 to 100kph in 3.4 seconds and 0 to 200kph in 10.2 seconds.
The power generated by the 10-cylinder is delivered to the road via the new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission "Lamborghini Doppia Frizione" (LDF) and an all-wheel drive that also features a hydraulic multi-plate clutch. Three different driving modes, spanning from road to race track, can be selected using a drive select switch in the steering wheel. The system is called ANIMA (Italian for Soul) - "Adaptive Network Intelligent Management", and impacts the engine, the transmission, the all-wheel drive and the ESC handling system as well as other dynamic systems.
The Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale is a system for precise and direct measurements of the vehicle movements (X, Y, Z accelerations, Roll, Pitch, Yaw rates). It consists of several on-board sensors: 3 accelerometers + 3 gyroscopes placed on the center of gravity of the car and provides real-time high-speed communication via a FlexRay CAN-bus to ESC, 4WD, LMR, LDS.
The result are fast and responsive vehicle dynamics as well as maximised vehicle performances. The system is derived from aeronautics and the Huracan is the first series production car to employ it.
Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur expects to bring in 20 units of Huracan for 2016, of which 20% are expected to be the Spyder variant.
Present at the lifestyle supercar launch today were Automobili Lamborghini South-East Asian operations chief Sebastien Henry and Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur chief operating officer Marcus Chye.
“The Huracán Spyder combines the performance of the Huracán coupé paired with the added emotional dimension of open air driving. The Gallardo Spyder, which this car replaces, was the best-selling open top model in Lamborghini’s history. We are confident that the Huracan Spyder will surpass this,” said Henry.
