Land Rover 'Baby' Defender imagined

By CARSIFU | 3 February 2020

PETALING JAYA: Prediction is the name of the game here as some motoring websites have received renderings of what a mini SUV Defender might look like, even though there is no official word on such a model being developed (if at all).

But that hasn't stopped designer Dejan Hristov from imagining what it could look like with its boxy silhouette and flat surfaces.

So let's pretend it's in a design stage of an R&D prototype and critique Hristov's ideas because why not.

Front fascia: looks like the Defender design (and it says so too with its big font). Slim headlamps (futuristic, good), wheel arches (stocky and big, good), two-door and four-door (possible variant line-up, I like it), and the spare-wheel on the tailgate (still the best place for a spare tyre, good).

uk.motor1.com suggests that "another model that’s even more affordable could further boost sales for the company" in the US market and states that sales of Land Rover has doubled since 2012.

While carscoops.com says that this mysterious, new Defender "could use a new platform dubbed the Omega-Arc (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) by Tata and based around the D8 steel platform of the original Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport."

Rumours are abound and if they turn out to be true, carscoops.com has offered a launch date sometime in early 2021.

So there might be a teaser as early as this year if official sources could actually confirm something soon. But for now, enjoy the renders.
