PETALING JAYA: The new fifth-generation Land Rover Discovery (L462) sport utility vehicle (SUV) will be making an appearance ahead of its official launch that's expected to be in January, 2018.

During the preview, Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia will be taking orders for the new British-made SUV and has chosen to power it with a 3.0-litre Td6 (turbodiesel V6) AJD engine mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Other engine variants include a 2.0-litre I4 Ingenium turbodiesel, 3.0-litre AJ126 V6 supercharged petrol engine and a 5.0--litre AJ-133 supercharged V8 (SVX).

With a kerb heft of 2,230kg (2,193kg - petrol), the new Discovery has a wheelbase of 2,923mm (+38mm) and comes in measuring 4,970mm-long (+132mm), 2,073mm-wide (+51mm) and 1,888mm-tall (+47mm).

The latest Discovery will be equipped with the brand's second-generation Terrain Response system that allows its driver to select auto (new), snow, grass, gravel, mud ruts, sand, or rock crawling with a twist of dial.

Much like the L405 Range Rover, it uses aluminium for its chassis and revised body panels - allowing it to shed up to 480kg while increasing torsional rigidity simultaneously over its predecessor. It's newfound aerodynamic efficiency also helps to improve fuel consumption.

The cabin has been equipped with five ISOFIX mounting points which includes the third row seats as well, along with precise finishes and high quality materials.

As part of its special preview, visitors will be offered a 360-degree experience of the vehicle via a Virtual Reality Experience kit - allowing patrons to experience animations to help bring it to life.

The Discovery was first introduced in 1989 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and will be previewed from Nov 9-12 at Hall C (Booth 69) of the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.
