Last Lamborghini Aventador and its virtual NFT version up for auction

By ETX Studio | 10 April 2022

PARIS: Lamborghini has announced that it will be selling an NFT to accompany the last Aventador LP 780-4 Coupe to roll off the production line.

The whole lot will be sold at auction by RM Sotheby's, starting April 19 to 21. Bidding can also be made directly on the RM Sotheby's website.

The NFT takes the form of a virtual work, created by the artist Krista Kim, who specialises in digital artworks and the metaverse.

It is a virtual reproduction of the car, customised by the contemporary artist, and accompanied by exclusive sounds from DJ Steve Aoki.

An NFT is a unique certified digital token, which guarantees its exclusive nature.

For the Italian carmaker, this sale symbolises not only a switch to fully electric production —first hybrid then 100% electric — but also, more symbolically, its arrival in a new digital era, that of the metaverse.

Only one buyer will be able to own this NFT.  The buyer will also have access to the brand's VIP services, which include exclusive virtual previews of the brand's future models, as well as a private tour of the Lamborghini Museum in Italy.

The sale will take place from April 19 to 21, 2022. It will, of course, be possible to bid directly on the RM Sotheby's website.

As for the real car, the final edition is known fittingly as the Aventador Ultimae. It will be sold at starting prices upwards of €400,000 (RM1.8mil) in a limited run of 250 roadsters and 350 coupés, dpa cited the car maker as saying.

Recognisable from the outside mainly by new colour combinations and on the inside by the limited edition badge, the Ultimae houses a longitudinally mounted V12 engine in the rear.

This Lambo is squeezing every last drip of power from its engine, and has pushed its horsepower to 780hp from the 6.5 litres engine, the maker say.

Driven by all four wheels as standard, the final Aventador accelerates from a standstill to 100kph in 2.8 seconds and reaches up to 355kph.

You're not paying for a lower carbon footprint, however, and Lamborghini puts fuel consumption at 19.6 litres and CO2 emissions of 452 g/km. What climate change?

But Lamborghini says work has already started on a more frugal successor to the Aventador with a hybrid drive.
