Latest generation Mercedes-AMG GT R and GT C launched

SEPANG: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today introduced the new generation of the Mercedes-AMG GT R and GT C.

The GT R and GT C are priced at RM1,712,888 and RM1,558,888 (prices are on-the-road without insurance) respectively.

The GT R pumps out 585hp with a peak torque of 700Nm from its 4.0-litre V8 turbo engine. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via an AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

It does the sprint from 0 to 100kph in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 318kph.

Having spent most of its development time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the GT R is nicknamed "Beast of the Green Hell" as it took just 7:10.9 minutes to complete the track.

The GT C, on the other hand, has a performance level that slots in between the GT S and GT R.

Powered by the 4.0-litre V8 turbo engine and mated to the AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed transmission, the GT C produces 557hp and 680Nm of torque.

The sprint from 0-100kph takes just 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 316kph.

New to the GT R and GT C is the tri-functional, arched light guide which takes on the functions of daytime running light, navigation light and turn signals.

The light of the LED taillights also appears deeper set and sportier through the dark background.

From the back, the new look of the rear apron is striking. The sporty black diffuser insert is redesigned for the GT C. In addition, the GT C has trapezoidal-shaped twin tail pipe covers.

Whereas the rear design of the GT R keeps its distinctive shape with the large, centrally positioned tail pipe cover with centre bar. It is flanked by two more black tail pipes on the left and right of the diffuser.

Both the GT R and GT C feature a fully digital instrument display with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch multimedia display on the centre console.

The instrument cluster offers an entirely new screen design with the three AMG-specific display styles – Classic, Sporty and Supersport.

The two AMG GT models have the standard new AMG steering wheel buttons. In the GT R, the steering wheel is completely covered with Dinamica microfibre, while the steering wheel of the GT C is in black nappa leather/Dinamica microfiber.

The GT R now comes with the AMG Track Package, which includes a roll-over protection system, enclosed 4-point safety harnesses for driver, and a 2-kg fire extinguisher.

Also available in the GT R is AMG Track Pace, which logs data such as laps, sector times on established and manually configured tracks, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, accelerator and brake pedal
movements.
