DETROIT: A steady pair of hands a lot of patience is all you need to build the iconic 1967 Ford Mustang from toymaker Lego. The latest addition to its range of automotive kits is made up of 1,471 parts and retails for US$148 (RM ).

The dark blue kit assembles into an impressive 34-centimetre-long model of the first-ever pony car - the horse name Mustang spawned a host of copy-cat models from other brands.

The Lego Mustang features working steering, dark-blue bodywork, white racing stripes, a bonnet scoop, printed Mustang grille badge, GT emblems and tyres with five-spoke rims.

Builders can also customise their all-American icon to their own specification thanks to a collection of optional add-ons. Customisation options include a supercharger, a rear duck-tail spoiler, beefy exhaust pipes and a front chin spoiler.

The replica also allows owners to store little items in the boot or lift the bonnet to reveal a detailed big block 390 cubic inch V8 engine with battery, hoses and air filter detailing.

"To bring this car into life in brick form, with this level of customisation, has been exhilarating," Lego's Jamie Berard says.
