Lexus to show off first electric car in Guangzhou on Nov 22

TOKYO: Lexus today sent out a teaser image indicating that its first fully electric car will make its world premiere at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition.

The fact it chose China to roll out its first EV shows it's banking on the biggest auto market in the world to recoup its investment in the project.

Lexus was sparse with its words, saying that the car had been designed with the Chinese and the European markets in mind.

Although Lexus had recently shown the electric LF-30 concept with gullwing doors in Tokyo, this is unlikely to the car that would be officially revealed in Guangzhou, come Nov 22. It's too niche where Lexus needs to come out with a mainstream model that sells in numbers.

Some auto observers are speculating that the car that's coming could be the electric version of the UX crossover or even the final version of the 2015 LF-SA compact hatchback concept, a 2+2 city car.
