LG and VW to team up on connected car platform

WOLFSBURG: The Volkswagen Group, whose car companies include Audi, Bentley, Skoda and Bugatti as well as VW, is partnering with South Korean tech giant LG Electronics in order to create the foundations for the connected car of the future.

Announced on Wednesday, the joint research and development program aims to create a digital platform that will seamlessly link the disparate elements of consumers' digital lives - from smart home devices and digital entertainment content, to real-time navigation, news and alerts - to their cars.

"LG Electronics and Volkswagen are teaming up to develop the next generation of connected car platform that allows wide integration with smart home services and adoption of open IoT connectivity technologies," said LG cloud centre chief Richard Choi.

"We think LG's expertise in smart technology together with Volkswagen's leadership in the automotive sector will revolutionise the way drivers interact with their vehicles."

According to VW, one of the most critical elements of the new platform will be how information and notifications are displayed or delivered and how content is accessed.
