KUALA NERUS: The Road Transport Department expects about 15,000 senior citizens to get their driving or riding licence under the One Community, One JPJ (SKSJ) programme this year.

Its director-general, Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad, said the programme was to help the community in dealing with JPJ, especially those in remote areas such as orang asli and senior citizens by bringing services to the people.

“We want road users, especially motorcycle riders, to get a valid licence so that they will be covered by insurance in the event of an accident,” he said after closing an SKSJ programme here yesterday.

Ismail said under the Kuala Nerus SKSJ programme, 447 participants obtained B2 class riding licence.

Participants only paid RM170 to obtain the licence compared to a minimum of RM400 charged by driving schools.

He said the programmes had benefited 77,500 people since it was introduced in 2009.
