KUALA LUMPUR: Goodyear Malaysia recently donated used tyres to Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 20 (SK 20) in Shah Alam to help impart the importance of recycling onto students for the sake of the environment and community.

The tyre maker recently donated tyres to (SK 20), for the school’s recreational activities and workshop training in addition to using them for practical purposes while some were used as decoration.

The SK 20 school, spearheaded by SK 20 teacher Aizatul Ashraf's initiative who noticed the bare school grounds, aims to reuse the tyres and create sculptures that would offer a differentiated learning environment for its students.

This idea was inspired by the unveiling of two statues crafted by professional sculptors, made entirely out of Goodyear tyres at the 2018 Cotton Bowl.

The Cotton Bowl is an annual college American football match, played between two teams in the semi-finals as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college football league.

“The tyres that we donated to the school would have been recycled and so are unsuitable for the market. We are happy to see them serving a new decorative and practical reason, which to us is the same as being recycled," said Goodyear Malaysia marketing communication and service manager Anthony Fonseka.
