Monterey Car Week is an annual automotive extravaganza, staged from Aug 9 to 18 at various locations on the California peninsula. It’s a pilgrimage for prestige, luxury and performance car fans, attracting thousands of visitors from across the US, Canada and beyond.
The Evija, being the world’s first all-electric British hypercar that recently made its global debut in July, managed to receive its first confirmed order from the US on the day of its reveal.
Priced from £1.7mil (including duties and taxes), paying a £250,000 reservation deposit secures a production slot for one of the 130 units.
The British sportscar maker touts the Evija as the most powerful and dynamically accomplished road car in its history and sets a new standard for its driving performance.
Aside from being the first new model since Geely took over in 2017, it is - after all, the first all-electric British hypercar and the first Lotus with an electrified powertrain with a targetted output of 2,000PS.
Not only has it been designed and engineered in the UK, but it will also be handbuilt at Hethel in the UK - the home of Lotus since 1966.
The all-wheel-driven Evija electric hypercar will possess a 70kWh / 2,000kW battery power
Along with its 2,000PS of power, it will also have 1,700Nm of torque to allow for century sprints (0-100kph) to be dispatched in under 3.0-seconds or 0-300kph in under 9.0-seconds and have a maximum speed of over 320kph.
With a 350kW charger, a full charge can be attained in about 18 minutes with an all-electric range of about 400km.
The car will weigh in at around 1,680kg and measure in at 4,459mm-long, 2,000mm-wide and 1,122mm-tall.
