BATU PAHAT: A man's love for a classic car model – the Volvo 122 Amazon – has paid off as he uses a modified unit to sell nasi lemak, which has drawn a large clientele due to its unique look.

Mohsin Yusop, 40, who sells nasi lemak in Senggarang here, says he has a collection of 10 units of the same car model, which was produced during the 1960s.

He said five of his cars have been modified and two out of these are being used by him and his wife, Norazlina Jaafar, 38, to sell nasi lemak.

Because of the novel use of the vehicle, customers have labelled the stall "Nasi Lemak Volvo RM1".

He said he had even given the five cars names such as "Master Hawk", "Mini On" and "Sampan Volvo Jaguh".

Mohsin added that another car from the five is regularly rented out for ceremonies like weddings and retirements.

He added that he had spent about RM60,000 on his hobby so far.

"One of the cars is now being modified into a food truck for me to sell nasi lemak in the future, ” he said.

According to Mohsin, he started collecting the cars five years ago after finding it difficult to ferry his nasi lemak on his Modenas Jaguh motorcyle to the place of business located about 1km from his house.

He then customised an antique car he had bought a few years back to transport 500 packs of nasi lemak daily.

"I did not expect the Volvo and Modenas Jaguh combination to became an attraction that would boost our sales, ” said the father of three children, aged five to 13.Mohsin said while most of his cars are modified, he still keeps one in its original form as his main transportation.

"Initially, many said it was weird seeing me buying old junks – but now after witnessing the results, they finally understand, ” said Mohsin.
