Low demand quashes hopes for a VW Polo R

PETALING JAYA: It looks like the pocket rocket that is the Volkswagen Polo R will not be going into production after all.

VW R chief Jost Capito said in a recent interview that even though there is interest in the Polo R, the demand does not justify the means.

“The Polo would not work - when we see what the clients have in this range, there is an interest but the volume would be too low, and the cost would be too high," he told Car Throttle.

The German car maker had recently released a number of R variants standard models such as the T-Roc and the Touareg. It also promises that the next Golf R would be even faster.

So, for the enthusiasts who have been waiting for an alleged 300hp Polo R, that's not going to happen. They will have to look at another R-badged Volkswagen to fill the void.
