LOS ANGELES: You may recall Mazda planning a limited run of 3,000 Mazda MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary models to cvelebrate 30 years of the model.
As the US is the MX-5 Miata's biggest market, a limited allotment has been set aside for them. And American fans have quickly placed their pre-orders hoping to own a piece of history for themselves.
One of those passionate fans securing a celebratory roadster is Gerald Blum of St. Petersburg, Florida. He was one of the first to take delivery of the anniversary roadster in the US.
This will be the 13th Mazda the Blum family has owned, starting with a first-generation 1978 Mazda RX-7 that was the 249th unit produced. Blum is a regular at Tyrone Square Mazda dealership in Florida, having bought seven other Mazda vehicles from them.
According to Blum, it was a “no brainer” to pre-order the anniversary vehicle to go next to his Soul Red Crystal 2016 MX-5 Miata Club.
“What I love most about Mazda is the experience of driving the car,” Blum said. “As a diehard Mazda enthusiast, I’m thrilled to be among the first to get the new MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary and cannot take my eyes off the brilliant Racing Orange paint scheme. Orange is the new red!”
Its striking Racing Orange paint scheme and unique, non-sequential serialised “30th Anniversary” badging commemorates the 30-year anniversary.
The US$34,995 (RM147,000) special edition MX-5 Miata is equipped with a SKYACTIV-G 2.0L engine rated to deliver 181hp and 206Nm of torque. It is offered in both soft top and RF models, and builds upon the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Grand Touring, which added many new features including a newly refined powertrain, delivering a 17 percent increase over the previous model year.
The exclusive Racing Orange exterior paint colour pays homage to the yellow MX-5 Miata Club Racer that also debuted at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show. Racing Orange is meant to represent sunrise and anticipation, while staying true to the characteristics of a pure sports car.
The roof on RF is painted Racing Orange, while the soft top will feature a black cloth top.
The theme continues to the interior with orange interior louvers and orange piping on the heated RECARO sports seats. The seats in this special edition are wrapped in Alcantara, which is also found in the door inserts and lower instrument panel.
Other highlights include RAYS ZE40 17-inch Dark Gunmetal forged alloy wheels and orange Brembo front brake calipers.
All of these features help to further enhance the customer’s sense of exclusivity and pride of ownership.
