McLaren reveals Carbon Theme Senna

By RELAXNEWS | 2 March 2018

LONDON: McLaren will be taking its incredible new Senna model to the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland next week. The 789hp hypercar will be created in five different themes, and one of them, the "Carbon Theme," has been revealed in some official images published by McLaren.

As you would expect from the name, there's a lot of carbon fibre going on here, and the interior echoes the theme by using a Carbon Black Alcantara trim. On the outside there are no less than 67 Visual Carbon Fiber parts, which the British sports car manufacturer says took nearly 1,000 hours to produce.

These parts are then further accentuated by the use of Solar Yellow and Laurel Green detailing, which is an obvious but tasteful nod to the F1 legend the car is named after, who always wore a helmet decorated in the colours of his home country of Brazil. The car itself costs £750,000, but choosing the Carbon Theme adds a further £300,000 to that not-inconsiderable price tag.

That's not all though, because McLaren can also fit a set of ultra-lightweight MSO 7-Spoke Hybrid Carbon Fiber wheels as another optional upgrade, if buyers wish. These stunning center-lock wheels boast a forged aluminum and carbon fibre construction, which means compared to the standard wheels they reduce the weight by 10 percent and rolling inertia by 10 to 15 percent. This inevitably helps to improve the acceleration, braking and steering response of the car.

"The McLaren Senna customers in specifying their own, personalised cars are almost without exception commissioning an elevated level of MSO content, so we are definitely appealing to our target audience," said McLaren's Special Operations managing director Ansar Ali.

"With the car having generated so much interest since its unveiling in December, we knew we needed to produce something very special in order to showcase the unique talents of McLaren Special Operations."

What was perhaps more interesting about the Carbon Black Senna was a snippet saying McLaren would make a "surprise announcement" at the Geneva Motor Show. Considering the pricing and exclusivity of the Senna, and the fact the production run of 500 is already sold out, it's hard to imagine the company announcing more units will be produced.

At least we won't have long to wait to find out as the show opens next week.
