LONDON: McLaren Automotive has announced that it will be unveiling its new high-performance hybrid supercar next year by introducing the Artura.

The British supercar maker says that the Artura will mark a new era for the company by building in its expertise garnered from its P1 hybrid hypercar (2012) and latest Speedtail Hyper-GT that boasts of a top speed of 250mph (405kph).

Powering the Artura is said to be an all-new compact twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that combines its efforts with an electric motor. All-electric journeys will be available to help traverse through congested urban jungles.

The nett performance will be similar to that of the company's larger capacity twin-turbo V8 engines, only it will provide better torque response at low engine speeds - thereby improving its accelerative qualities.

The Artura will use a completely new platform that's been optimized for electrification - completely built and manufactured in the UK at the McLaren Composites Technology Centre.

Together with the use of McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), it only means that extensive use of carbon fibre will be expected throughout the chassis, body and powertrain.
