McLaren's Spider sense is tingling with open-top 765 LT two-seater

LONDON: Get your goggles on, because McLaren is preparing to launch an open version of its 765 LT as a Spider that can take you to eye-searing speeds with the roof and the windows down.

But if anything it's the price that's likely to make your eyes tear up.

The McLaren 765 LT is limited to 765 units and the British sports car manufacturer says pricing in Europe will start at upwards of €369,000 (RM1.8mil) when the open-top car launches in spring 2022.

Developed on the basis of the 720S Spider, McLaren has significantly modified the bodywork, optimised the aerodynamics and, most importantly, modified the engines in order to allow for top speeds of up to 330kph.

The 3.8-litre V8 produces 765 instead of 720 horsepower, sending you into the back of your seat with a maximum torque of 800Nm.

According to the manufacturer, the transmission of the two-seater also shifts 15 per cent faster and the car is 80kg lighter overall.

The driving specs also match the pricing: The 765 LT accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 2.8 seconds, and can hit 200kph from a standstill in 7.2 seconds.

McLaren says the top speed is 330kph, although - as in the 720S - you'll only be able to hit this with the roof down.

Most people putting this car to its limits won't care much about emissions or carbon footprints, but it's still worth mentioning that this is no climate change proof car: It burns through an average of 12.3 litres and has sizeable CO2 emission footprint of 280 g/km.
