Mechanics are Castrol's Unsung Heroes

PETALING JAYA: 20 Malaysian mechanics have been voted by the general public as Castrol Unsung Heroes award winners in conjunction with the Castrol ‘Hari Mekanik Malaysia’ campaign.

The award winners are the top 10 mechanics selected from the cars/trucks, as well as bikes automotive segments, respectively, comprising of mechanics from Selangor, Pahang, Perak, Penang, Johor and Sabah.

The awards were slated to be presented by Castrol on March 18, 2020 at the ‘Hari Mekanik Malaysia’ awards ceremony.

However, following careful evaluation of the current situation surrounding the global Covid-19 outbreak, and following advice from the Malaysian Ministry of Health and relevant authorities, a decision was made to cancel the event, which was scheduled to be held in Subang Jaya.

Familiar faces were among the winners, as Castrol Super Mechanic Contest 2018 Malaysia and Asia Pacific defending champions, Low Pai Khoon from Penang, Tan Yong Jun from Perak and Yim Shao Ze from Perlis are among the winners of the cars and trucks category.

All 20 Unsung Heroes will be presented with Castrol certificates, Hari Mekanik Malaysia trophies and official Castrol merchandise.

10 winners from the cars and trucks category will also be receiving an automotive training course to elevate their skills in the industry.

“The opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroes of Malaysia means a great deal to us at Castrol, however the safety of the Malaysian public remains as our main priority at this moment. Our 20 award winners from the campaign is a reflection of our efforts in appreciating as well as motivating mechanics in the automotive industry. We look forward to creating more avenues focused on celebrating the community in the near future”, said Castrol Malaysia and Singapore Marketing Director, Keow Mei-Shan.

The campaign, which started last November and was scheduled to run until September 2020, includes a series of awareness and celebratory events dedicated to promote appreciation of the work and contribution of mechanics.
