Mercedes-Benz C 200 official details revealed

STUTTGART: Mercedes-Benz has revealed official details of the upcoming C 200 (W205) facelifted sedan and it's going to arrive with a new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine among others.

Externally, the C 200 will be sporting a new front and rear bumper, aerodynamic wheels for better brake cooling, front diamond grille and a pair of front LED High Performance headlamps.

Under the hood, lies a new 1.5-litre (1,497cc) turbocharged engine coupled with a 48V onboard electrical system (EQ Boost) that aids the engine by allowing it quickly reach its ideal rev-range quickly; spool up the turbo and reduce gearshift times.

The engine is able to produce 184hp from 5,800 to 6,100rpm and 280Nm of torque from 3,000 to 4,000rpm.

A nine-speed 9G-TRONIC transmission manages power delivery to the rear while the standard 17-inch wheels wear 225/50 series tyres that partially obscure the 305mm(front) and 300mm (rear) disc brakes.

For a configurable driving experience, a new DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL suspension system with damping characteristics adjustable in three stages as well as Sports Direct-Steer system or AIR BODY CONTROL suspension.

In terms of combined fuel consumption, the C 200 gets rated at 6.3 to 6.8 litres per 100km, while combined CO2 emissions are from 144 to 154 grams per kilometre.

The C200 is able to reach 100kph from standstill in 7.7 seconds - thanks to the EQ Boost's assistance by providing an additional 14hp/160Nm, before reaching a top speed of 225kph.

For better fuel consumption, the engine has been given the German carmaker's patented Conicshape process, which slightly opens up the cylinder wall towards the bottom in order to reduce friction and wear, while also being equipped with a particulate filter - like all diesel engines in Europe.

Also, there's recuperative braking system, glide mode, start-stop functionality to further help improve fuel economy.

Inside, there's now a 12.3-inch digital cockpit, a larger 10.25-inch media display and a new multifunction steering wheel with touch control buttons.

Furthermore, the cabin gets new open-pore trim elements that can go with one of the 64 lighting system's colours and Energizing comfort control.

To further bolster safety levels, the new C-Class comes with Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist,  Active Emergency Stop Assist and Active Lane Change Assist.
