SUBANG JAYA: The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is now locally assembled from Pekan, Pahang and prospective owners will be paying much less for it and still be able to enjoy all the luxury, safety and technological features of the premium limousine.

Three variants were launched today consisting of the Mercedes-Benz E 200 Avantgarde Line, E 250 Avantgarde Line and E 250 Exclusive Line priced RM348,888, RM378,888 and RM383,888 respectively. All prices are on-the-road without insurance but with GST.

The previous fully-imported E-Class E 200 Avantgarde costs RM47,000 more while the E 250 Avantgarde and E 250 Exclusive was RM42,000 more.

"The state-of-the-art E-Class sets benchmarks and in the past has repeatedly redefined the standards for the premium segment and the automotive market as a whole. Since its introduction last year, the E-Class has received overwhelming response, making it the best-selling CBU introduction to date.

"With the new locally assembled E-Class, we mark a new era in locally produced cars and firmly cement our position as the leading premium luxury brand in Malaysia, always pursuing our claim to be the best or nothing," said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vice-president (sales and marketing, passenger cars), Mark Raine at the launch event.

The E-Class oozes sophistication, style and dynamism which is expressed through its elongated bonnet, coupe-like roof flowing down to its broad shouldered tail.

Its interior is wrapped in high quality materials such as nappa leather and open pore wood. It includes two high-resolution displays with each wide screen measuring at 12.3in for the instrument cluster and central display. And the multifunction steering wheel has touch control buttons to operate the instrument cluster and multimedia system.

The ambient lighting in the cockpit has up to 64 colour choices for even more personalisation.

The E-Class is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine producing 184hp and 300Nm of torque for the E 200 while the E 250 is tuned higher to produce 211hp and 350Nm of torque. All variants include the nine-speed automatic transmission, LED headlights and an automatic braking system that prevents the car from rear-ending vehicles ahead.

The E 250 has more kit such as the Burmester Surround Sound System, panoramic sliding sunroof and 19in wheels among others.

“The reduction in E-Class prices will certainly attract more buyers, even perhaps those who had never owned a Mercedes-Benz before,” said Raine.
