Michelin unveils cost-effective X Multi tyre range

KUALA LUMPUR: Michelin Malaysia unveiled its latest generation of X Multi truck and bus tyres that’s designed to provide greater mileage and cost savings, better stability and improved retreadability.

Manufactured in Thailand, the tyres are the multi-purpose X Multi Z and the purpose-built X Multi D (for the drive wheels) and T (for the trailer) while retaining its affordability.

When compared to the Michelin XZE range, the company says that its three new tyres offer improved levels of driver safety at highway speeds, withstand heavier loads, has less rolling resistance for better fuel economy and are more durable.

While helping to improve a business’ operating costs, the tyre are available in the sizes of 11R22.5, 12R22.5 as well as low profile 275/70R22.5 and 295/80R22.5 tyres.

According to the French tyre manufacturer, between the 295/80R22.5 and 275/70R22.5 sizes, a 10mm decrease in tyre profile allows for even better highway stability as well as help improve load times and volume gains thanks to the height reduction.

While comparing to the Michelin XZE, the multi-purpose X Multi Z tyre comes with a newly designed tread pattern and compound for a 25% improvement in tyre mileage.

Tyre sizes available for the X Multi Z are 11R22.5, 12R22.5, 295/80R22.5 and 275/70R22.5.

The X Multi D tyre, meant for the drive wheels, has 192 hexagonal blocks with “double wave” sipes tread pattern for traction, which Michelin touts to provide good grip levels till the end of the tyre’s life.

Furthermore, it possesses an additional full metallic ply for better resistance to crown impact / penetration and is available in sizes of 11R22.5, 295/80R22.5 and 275/70R22.5

The X Multi T (only available in 275/70R22.5) tyre is meant for the trailer section and has been designed to provide better loading efficiency for better volume gain, while overall grip in both dry and wet conditions have also been improved.

“The new Michelin X Multi range delivers improved performance across the board, without requiring any compromise in the key features of Michelin tyres, including safe, energy-efficient operation and lower total cost of ownership,” said Michelin Malaysia managing director Beltran Yturriaga.
