MINI Seven tributes Austin Seven days

LONDON: MINI has resurrected its old 'Seven' namesake as an ode to the old days of 1959 when the little car was once known as an Austin Seven.

It's purely an aesthetic upgrade, without an mention of price, for the Mini Seven with its new paint scheme and badge for the three and five-door Cooper, as well as the range-topping Cooper S variant.

The new colours, while sporting a roof and exterior mirror caps in Melting Silver, include Pepper White, Midnight Black, British Racing Green and Lapisluxury Blue.

Four engine variants will be made available starting with the range-topping Cooper S with a 2.0-litre (1,998cc) turbocharged engine producing 192hp from 4,700 to 6,000rpm and 280Nm (300Nm with overboost) of torque from 1,250rpm for both three and five door variants.

The three and five-door Cooper will use a three-cylinder 1.5-litre (1,499cc) turbocharged engine instead producing 136hp at 4,400rpm and 220NM (230Nm with overboost) of torque from 1,250rpm.

Where diesel is concerned, the three and five-door Cooper SD gets a 2.0-litre (1,995cc) turbo-diesel mill dishing out 173hp at 4,000rpm and 360NM of torque from 1,500 to 2,750rpm, while the Cooper D makes use of a three-cylinder 1,496cc turbo-diesel engine with 116hp at 4,000rpm and 270Nm at 1,750rpm.
