Mitsubishi due to release new L200/Triton

TOKYO: Mitsubishi Motors announced on Monday that it will reveal on Nov 9 the refreshed Mitsubishi L200 or Triton as we know it.

What is currently known about the new vehicle is that it will have an all-new front end and more angular headlights as well as lighting similarities with the Outlander. Taillights are also due for some changes.

Expect some technical updates as well.

The L200 is powered by a 2.4-litre turbodiesel that produces 178hp. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic.

In Malaysia, the L200 is sold as the Triton with 4X2 and 4X4 variants. The 4X2 Triton is powered by a 2.5-litre turbodiesel mated to a 5-speed manual. The 4X4 version comes with in a choice of 2.5-litre turbodiesel mill paired with a 5-speed manual or a 2.4-litre turbodiesel with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic.

As the latest partner to join the Renault-Nissan alliance, Mitsubishi is likely to share parts and platform in moulding the latest L200.

More than 4.7 million Mitsubishi L200s have been produced since it first debuted in 1978.

Designed to be “Engineered Beyond Tough”, the new model is touted to have enhanced performance, functionality, durability, safety and refinement based on feedback from owners across the world.
