GENEVA: Mitsubishi is making a statement at the Geneva Motor Show by updating its SUV range.

The Japanese manufacturer has given a facelift to its ASX model, while also teasing the next generation of the Outlander.

The ASX retains its 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, while improving its exhaust behaviour. There's also a fresh design on the inside with more assistance systems and a new front on the outside.

The Mitsubishi ASX is expected to go on sale early 2020.

Even farther away is the next generation of the Outlander. The concept shown in Geneva is named after the Swiss ski resort Engelberg and boasts a significantly more powerful engine than the current production model.

While the design is still heavily overproduced, the car's technology is already close to production, according to Mitsubishi. Under a rather angular hood is the evolved plug-in hybrid of the current Outlander with a 2.4-litre petrol engine and two electric motors.

This should drive the off-road vehicle 70km without fuel and have a total range of about 700km. When we can expect to see it on our roads, is still to be determined.
