KUALA LUMPUR: Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) is recalling nearly 900 cars to replace defective airbags that may pose a danger to occupants.
The recall affects 895 Mitsubishi Lancer JT manufactured from September 2004 to April 2006.
The passenger airbag inflator in the car may release metal fragments when deployed causing injuries to the passenger.
“MMM is taking this initiative to ensure customer safety and regrets the inconvenience caused. This effort is to enable the replacement of the passenger airbag inflator with newly produced inflators,” said MMM chief executive officer Yang Won-Chul.
MMM will send notification letters to affected car owners and the full cost of the replacement will be borne by the company.
It urged customers to make an appointment at any Mitsubishi service centre to have the problem fixed.
