More petrol stations selling Euro4M petrol

KUALA LUMPUR: Other petroleum companies have started selling higher-grade petrol from today following the introduction of the Euro4M RON97 petrol by Petronas last month.

Chevron, Petron and BHPetrol were among the companies that have started selling the Euro4M fuel, which helps reduce air pollution and improve engine performance, among other benefits. But Shell continues to sell its normal RON97 petrol at Euro2M-spec. However,  its RON97 V-Power Racing fuel, available since 2010, is already Euro 4M-compliant.

The Euro4M standard comes with lower benzene, sulphur content as well as Reid Vapour Pressure (RVP) levels which ensures good vehicle operability. With largely reduced sulphur content, it enables the rapid introduction of clean and efficient vehicle technologies for spark and compression ignition engines.

The cleaner fuel has only 50ppm sulphur compared to the 500ppm found in the Euro2M-specified fuel sold until last month.

BHPetrol is one up on the rest, as it is currently the only oil company selling Euro5 diesel in Johor Baru and the Klang Valley. Such diesel grade is subject to much stringent reduction in sulphur than Euro4M fuels as it only has 10ppm.

The September price for RON97 is RM2.45 per litre.
