More roadblocks to go up on highways during festive period

SHAH ALAM: Additional roadblocks on highways will be put up to prevent illegal interstate travel during the festive period.

Selangor police Covid-19 special spokesman Asst Comm Muhammad Yazid Muhammad Yew said that five new roadblocks will start operations by May 21.

“Yesterday (May 19), 21,993 cars were checked and 708 cars were instructed to turn back, ” he told reporters at the state police headquarters today.

He also said from May 6 to May 19, the police received 33,090 applications for interstate travel, of which 30,112 had been approved.



He also warned that those found making interstate travel without prior permission would be compounded.

“Now we mean business. No more 'advice', ”he said.

He also emphasised that house-to-house checks will be conducted during the festive period to see if people are complying with the set procedures.

“We will act on information obtained, ” he said.
