SUNGAI BULOH: Bukit Aman will use in-car radar and iCOPS vehicle plate scanning devices to detect traffic offenders during the upcoming Ops Selamat in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain said both systems installed in expressway mobile patrol vehicles (EMPV) will be able to detect vehicle speeds and also determine if an individual has outstanding summonses or traffic arrest warrants.

"We are practising enforcement digitally by using the In-Car Radar along highways to ensure that motorists abide by the speed limit.

"The iCOPS system will be able to detect traffic offenders with outstanding summonses, traffic arrest warrants as well as vehicles that were used in crimes," he said in his speech at the launch of the 17th Ops Selamat today.

The latest edition of Ops Selamat will be from Jan 28 until Feb 6, he added.

"Our main objective is preventing house break-ins and minimising road accidents during the Chinese New Year celebration. Police nationwide will be deployed on crime prevention rounds, operations and scheduled monitoring throughout the festivities," he said.

He also urged the public to take all the necessary precautions before leaving their homes.

"We also urge them to inform the police before going back to their hometowns.

"The forms can be obtained at the nearest police station or downloaded from the police official website.

"Informing us of 'balik kampung' plans can also be done by calling the 999 hotline or through the Volunteer Smart Patrol (VSP) application," he said.
