PETALING JAYA: The Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) is expected to be opened to motorists in July next year.

Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) chief executive Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah said the project was currently 63% complete.

He expected the expressway to accommodate between 100,000 and 120,000 vehicles a day.

The 24.4km expressway with three lanes will comprise three toll plazas and 14 interchanges. “This project presents some technical challenges due to its height and location.

“Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded at the construction site, ” Mohammad Azlan said at the “Mega Toolbox” workshop in Taman Bukit Segar, in Cheras, Selangor.

Themed “Safety Starts Here”, the event began at 8am and comprised safety talks by construction safety experts to over 250 personnel at the site.

There was also a rescue demonstration using a life-sized mannequin by the Malaysia Civil Defence Force.

“This workshop was held to help all on-site personnel including Prolintas employees, contractors and site workers to adhere to the set safety guidelines when at work.

“The SUKE project involved many parties, be it contractors, suppliers or consultants.

“It is important that everyone involved observes standard safety protocol, ” he said.

Also present at the workshop was Malaysian Highway Authority director-general Datuk Aziz Abdullah.
