Motorists entering Johor via causeway must use runners to top-up Touch N Go cards

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Motorists entering Malaysia from Singapore via the Johor Causeway are no longer allowed to get down from their vehicles to top-up their Touch N Go cards.

Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex task force chairman Andrew Chen Kan Eng said the move was implemented on Aug 14.

He said the new ruling, which applies only to inbound motorists with insufficient credit in their Touch N Go cards, was introduced to ease congestion at the Johor Causeway.

Chen said the top-up booths at the Johor Causeway have also been closed, adding motorists could use the services of four runners to top up their cards.

“The runners have portable machines with them to receive payments from motorists,’’ he told reporters outside the Johor State Assembly Hall Bangunan Sultan Ismail on Thursday (Aug 16).

Chen said the runner service was only for Touch N Go cardholders with insufficient credit in their cards and those with enough balance could top-up their cards elsewhere.

Chen, who is also Stulang assemblyman, was appointed by the state government last month to head the task force on congestion at the BSI.

Perling assemblyman Cheo Yew How was appointed as task force chairman for the Sultan Abu Bakar complex near the Second Link Crossing in Tanjung Kupang, Gelang Patah.
