LONDON: Jaguar's exclusivity has been taken a notch higher with the British luxury sports car maker revealing the British Design Edition for the F-Type S in coupe or convertible body styles.

Nothing has been adjusted in terms of dimensions, still maintaining a wheelbase of 2,622mm and measuring 4,470mm-long, 2,042mm-wide and 1,311mm-tall (1,308mm - convertible).

What lies under the hood is no surprise either - it's still a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine churning out 372bhp at 6,500rpm and 460Nm of torque from 3,500 to 5,000rpm - managed by an eight-speed Quickshift transmission before reaching its all-wheel drive system.

What has changed is mostly aesthetic for this sportscar with a kerb heft of 1,674kg (1,694kg - convertible) that can hit 100kph from standstill in 5.1 seconds before reaching a top speed of 275kph.

Stopping power has been up-rated and comes from a pair of red (optional black) front twin-piston (rear single-piston) sliding callipers for the front 380mm (rear 376mm) discs.

The new edition rolls on upsized 20-inch Cyclone wheels in Satin Dark Grey finish with optional British Design Edition centre caps and fitted with front: 255/35 (rear: 295/30) series tyres.

Furthermore, it gets a Sport Design Pack as standard and comprises of a gloss black front splitter, body-coloured side sill extensions and rear venturi (fixed rear spoiler for the coupe).

Completing the exterior enhancements are new badges for the front grille and the tailgate that have replaced the red and green of the S roundel.

Inside the Jet premium leather-clad interior with red, Ivory or Reims Blue contrast stitching are the unique Union Jack detailing in subtle monochrome - which can be found on the carbon fibre-trimmed centre console and stainless steel scuff plates or embossed on the headrests of the 14-way adjustable front sports seats.

For entertainment purposes, the sound system has been further upgraded to feature Jaguar’s InControl Touch infotainment system paired up with a 380W 10-speaker Meridian sound system or the optional InControl Touch Plus system with 770W 12-speaker Meridian surround sound system instead.

Both InControl Touch and InControl Touch Plus support the familiar InControl Apps and InControl Remote features, but the InControl Remote App is now available for the Apple Watch.

Functionality is similar to the current InControl Remote smartphone app, so owners are able to use their Apple Watch to remotely lock and unlock the vehicle, check fuel levels, find the car’s map location as well as start the engine to set the climate controls.

And thanks to the repackaging of key components at the rear of the vehicle, all 2017 model year F-TYPE convertibles offer an additional eight litres of luggage space to 206.7 litres.

Customer deliveries in the UK for the Jaguar F-Type British Design Edition will begin in the second quarter of 2016 and is currently available for order at Jaguar UK retailers priced from £75,225 (RM500,000) for the coupe and £80,390 (RM530,000) for the convertible.

“The F-TYPE is a sports car that excites the senses, with a visual drama that is both individual and very British. Creating the British Design Edition gave us the opportunity to subtly enhance the way the F-TYPE looks – inside and out,” said Jaguar director of design Ian Callum.
