New engines and tech for 2017 Range Rover Sport

LONDON: For 2017, the latest Range Rover Sport features an efficient Ingenium powertrain, upgraded infotainment system and new semi-autonomous driving connected technologies.

The Range Rover Sport will debut the new 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine, manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s own engine plant in Wolverhampton.

Already available on both Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models, Ingenium is Jaguar Land Rover’s new breed of engine designed for effortless performance, refinement and efficiency.

The introduction of a second turbocharger to the Ingenium engine has been significant in retaining the impressive power output and strong torque characteristics familiar to Range Rover Sport customers.

The advanced engine is the first Jaguar Land Rover-built unit to feature series sequential turbo technology.

Vehicles fitted with the new engine will be distinguished by a single twin-exhaust configuration.

Other derivatives retain the existing set-up, with a single exhaust on each side of the rear bumper.

Its advanced technology and all-aluminium construction contribute to impressive fuel consumption and a 0-100kph time of 8.0 seconds.

Customers can also choose Jaguar Land Rover's 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine, which achieves 340HP and 450Nm of torque.

Also, the 2017 Range Rover Sport is the first full-sized Land Rover SUV to feature a four-cylinder diesel engine.

The 2.0-litre SD4 Ingenium produces 240HP and 500Nm of torque.

Also, Land Rover introduces a series of semi-autonomous driving technologies to Range Rover Sport.

Advanced Tow Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Intelligent Speed Limiter work alongside existing features to elevate driver aids to an even greater level of convenience and safety.

There is Low Traction Launch which makes it easier for drivers to pull away on low-grip surfaces while the updated 4x4i menu presents all the necessary vehicle information when tackling challenging terrain.

The enlarged dual-view touchscreen features a new 10-inch display with tablet-style pinch and zoom orientation.

Meanwhile, Advanced Tow Assist technology is a first-in-class feature utilising the existing camera system and central touchscreen, allowing the driver to indicate the desired direction of their trailer using the Terrain Response 2 rotary controller mounted on the center console.

The vehicle will then autonomously steer the vehicle accordingly.

All the driver has to do is operate the accelerator and brake pedals.

As well as making it easier to manoeuvre a trailer, the system will alert the driver if a jack-knife situation is imminent, while the driver can monitor their immediate surroundings for potential hazards using the vehicle’s Surround Cameras.

There is also Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) which monitors the surroundings and will warn the driver if a collision is imminent, before intervening and braking if the driver fails to apply the brakes sufficiently.
