New Kia Rio 5-door tyke and Cerato Koup arrives

KUALA LUMPUR: While NAZA KIA Malaysia, the official distributor of the brand in Malaysia, has launched its latest five-door Rio that’s priced on-the-road with GST and insurance at RM79,080 and comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty.

While priced the same as its predecessor, this B-segment contender comes equipped with a Gamma 1.4-litre multi-point injection engine (MPI) with dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) and continuous variable valve timing (CVVT) from KIA.

The engine produces 107bhp and 137Nm of torque, while mated to a four-speed automatic transmission with a shift-gate for manual-style gear shifting.

The Rio’s front grille and rear styling has been revised as it rolls on new 17-inch alloy wheels and comes equipped with projection-type headlamps, daytime running lights, automatic electric folding mirrors with LED signals and LED rear combination lamps.

Inside, the Rio gets a glossy black finishing on the centre and gear console, where it houses the push-start ignition and a six-speaker audio system with hands-free functionality, Bluetooth connectivity, Auxiliary and USB ports and 860MB for MP3 and phonebook storage.

Premium amenities include a sunroof, a supervision meter cluster with a trip computer, automatic air-conditioning with cluster ionizer and auto defog system and automatic wipers.

For safety, the Rio comes equipped with six airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), brake assist system (BAS), vehicle stability management (VSM), electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist control (HAC) and rear ISOFIX.

The New Rio 5-Door is available in Deep Blue, Signal Red, Clear White and Bright Silver.

“The New Rio 5-Door boasts a bold and distinctive personality, bringing the latest B-segment model smartly into line with the rest of Kia’s strikingly modern, design-led product range,” said Naza Kia Malaysia COO Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar.

The Kia Rio was first launched in Malaysia in 2013, having sold more than 3,200 units to date, and will now play a significant part in sustaining their sales volume at 10,000 units per annum.

Meanwhile the Kia Cerato Koup has been previewed and gets a 1.6-litre turbo gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine that churns out 201bhp at 6,000rpm and 265Nm of torque from 1,750 to 4,500rpm, while mated to a six-speed automatic transmission – allowing it sprint to 100kph from standstill in 7.4sec.

Other features include HID headlamps and LED package, sunroof, frameless doors, ventilated driver’s seat, dual zone automatic climate controls with cluster ioniser, 4.2-inch TFT LCD Supervision cluster, smart welcome light system and the motor driven power steering (MDPS) with Flex Steer with a choice of Comfort / Normal / Sport steering feel.

While it's price has yet to be determined, the Cerato Koup comes equipped with safety features such as front and rear parking sensors, six airbags, VSM with ESC, ABS, EBD, BAS and HAC.
