KUALA LUMPUR: You can now buy the i8 plug-in hybrid for around RM1.2mil. BMW Group Malaysia said this at the opening of the first BMW World Malaysia exhibition here as it also announced that it has cut prices for all vehicles following the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from April 1.

Prices for BMW and MINI cars are now 1.9% lower and the BMW Motorrad motorcycles are up to 18% lower.

The announcement was made by managing director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia, Alan Harris during the opening ceremony of BMW World Malaysia at Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena, which will be held from April 17-19, 2015.

“In the first three months of 2015, we at BMW Group Malaysia delivered a total of 1,729 BMW, MINI and Motorrad vehicles. This performance is in tandem with what we have observed in the Malaysian auto industry due to over speculation on pricing post GST. As we now progress further into 2015, we hope that car buyers have amuch clearer conscience when deciding on their new BMW, MINI or Motorrad,” said Harris.



Even though the first quarter figures for 2015 is slightly lower compared to last year’s first quarter’s performance, Harris maintains a positive outlook for 2015.

“We’ve been enjoying double-digit growth for the last couple of years and we’re confident we will be able to do the same for 2015,” said Harris.



The BMW World Malaysia is the first and largest ever display of premium vehicles in Malaysia.

It also saw the launch of a series of all-new cars and motorcycles such as the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X6 xDrive35i, BMW i8, the new MINI John Cooper Works and bikes such as the BMW S 1000 RR and BMW R 1200 R.



Also featured was the new MINI Cooper 5-Door and the now locally-assembled MINI Cooper Countryman.

Prices of the new vehicles are as follows:
BMW 218i Active Tourer (RM218,800); BMW 218i Active Tourer Luxury Line (RM248,800); BMW X6 xDrive35i (RM718,800) and BMW i8 including BMWi wallbox (RM1,188,800).
MINI John Cooper Works (RM288,888); MINI Cooper 5-Door (RM188,888) and MINI Cooper Countryman (RM198,888).
And finally the bikes: BMW S 1000 RR (RM108,900) and BMW R 1200 R (RM91,900).
All prices are on-the-road without insurance.



It also showcased the premiere of the BMW 328 Hommage, the first in Asia, as well as the Malaysian premiere of the BMW Concept Roadster motorcycle.
