Newer or better quality car tyres should go on the rear axle

STUTTGART: Whenever possible, drivers should keep tyres with a deeper tread on their car's rear wheels, experts say.
This general rule applies regardless of whether the car has front-wheel, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, according to a recent issue of the German automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

After all, the cornering forces of the rear axle have a key influence on a vehicle's driving stability. If older or more worn-down tyres are used at the rear, this could cause the car to lose traction and skid along the road when, for example, making a quick lane change.

Even an electronic stability program (ESP) can't always prevent a rear axle from fishtailing if it has been fitted with worn-out tyres.
