Mercedes-Benz to preview next-gen S-Class on July 8

BERLIN: Mercedes-Benz will preview its W223 S-Class ahead of its official launch in September.

The preview of Daimler's flagship model looks to be held on July 8, but for the time being, we have to make do with a teaser image of the car's front end along with its massive-looking touchscreen that's more than 10-inches wide.

The large screen should be where the climate controls, navigation, connectivity and other functions are hosted.

Word from the grapevine is that the flagship Panzer-wagon will come with a heads-up display that could have an augmented reality feature for the navigation system.

The German carmaker's V12 is expected to be used in the range-topping Maybach variant with an all-wheel-drive system while the performance-oriented AMG S65 has been axed.

Expect to have the company's iconic inline-six power-plant available as well as a V8 option and four-cylinder engine variants - all paired to a mild-hybrid powertrain.

For Malaysia, we wouldn't expect anything less than a hybrid-assisted inline-six powertrain on a long or extra-long wheelbase.

There should also be a rear-wheel steering system to provide the upcoming W223 with added agility and stability.

Where autonomous driving capability is concerned, it should be at level three or four at this point of the technology's development.
