Night driving specs? Why you should never drive with amber glasses

BERLIN: Yellow-tinted glasses, sometimes called night driving glasses, are a big no for drivers, say road safety experts.

These glasses are often explicitly advertised as a kind of sunglasses for night driving. Apparently designed to help you see better in the dark, the amber colour is said to reduce the glare of oncoming cars, so manufacturers say.

But the fact is they will only worsen your sensitivity to the glare of headlights, and will likely also make your vision worse at dusk.

Therefore, road safety experts such as the German car club ADAC say these glasses are "definitely not suitable" for road traffic.
