KUALA LUMPUR: The Nissan Kicks compact crossover is slated for a Malaysian launch, and will rival the likes of the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Toyota C-HR.

A Kenanga Research report said Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd will launch new vehicles in 2019 or earlier (second half of 2018), which may include the Nissan Kicks, all-new Serena Hybrid and all-new Leaf.

Size-wise, the Kicks has a length of 4,295mm; width of 1,760mm; height of 1,590mm and wheelbase of 2,610mm.

In China, the Kicks has a 1.5-litre engine mated to a Xtronic CVT gearbox.

Based on the V platform of the Nissan Almera, the Kicks went on sale in China in July 2017 at a starting price of 99,800 yuan (RM61,855).

The Kicks features Nissan’s signature V-motion grille, boomerang-shaped headlights and tail lights, a “floating” roof sitting on top of the glass house, and unique two-tone exterior colour combinations.

The D-shaped steering wheel and 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels give the car a sporty feel.

In China, premium safety features in the Kicks can include Intelligent Emergency Braking, Intelligent Lane Intervention, Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention and Cross Traffic Alert.

The production Nissan Kicks retains the basic design cues taken from the Kicks Concept – first shown at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in 2014.

The Brazilian-market Kicks, launched in July 2016, has a revised version of a Nissan 1.6-litre HR16DE petrol engine, which develops 114PS and a maximum torque of 152Nm.

In the United States, the Kicks is also powered by 1.6-litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder with Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS).

This engine is rated at 125hp and 156Nm of torque.
