Penang cops nab six members of car theft syndicate

GEORGE TOWN: Police have crippled a car theft syndicate following the arrest of six suspects on Thursday.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said the syndicate had been active since January this year, and cars with push-start buttons.

"The men were targeting new vehicles with a push start button feature in the Seberang Prai and Bayan Baru industrial areas.

"The suspects are between 20 to 60 in age. Two of the suspects have prior drug-related charges.

SAC Zainol said those arrested were those involved in repainting cars, and also middlemen and buyers for stolen cars.

"The case is being investigated Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, " he said.
