BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Perodua has begun exporting the Myvi and Alza to Brunei this year in a push to strengthen its regional presence.

A total of 310 units of Myvi 1.5SE and Alza 1.5SE model will be shipped to the country.

The two models made their debut at the Brunei Motoring BN – Auto Show 2016 here today. Their prices will be unveiled once the cars are in the showrooms.

At present, Perodua exports to five countries namely Singapore, Mauritius, Brunei, Sri Lanka and Fiji. The compact carmaker also exports the Myvi to Indonesia as the Daihatsu Sirion (under the Daihatsu badge).

“This is a major step forward for Perodua to strengthen our brand presence in the region as we strive to become a player in the Asean auto market,” said Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Perodua began exporting to Brunei in 1996 with the Kancil and have exported 2,300 vehicles to the tiny oil-rich country as of end 2015.

“We believe that there is demand for these models in this country as the acceptance of compact vehicles (there) is gradually growing,” said Aminar.

The cars were launched by Brunei Minister of Communications Datuk Paduka Awang Haji Mustappa Haji Sirat, GHK Motors Sdn Bhd managing director Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Datuk Paduka Goh King Chin, Aminar and Perodua executive director Kurinami Takamasa.

GHK Motors is one of Perodua’s distributors in Brunei.
