PETALING JAYA: Perodua has rebutted a blog posting that accused the Myvi and Alza models of posing high safety risk.

In his blog posting on March 10, 2015, blogger Wolf Vaupel claimed that the self-illuminating instrument cluster in the Myvi and Alza were “deadly”.

According to Vaupel’s blog, the self-illuminating instrument panel confuses drivers into thinking that the headlights are on.

In a statement, Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said based on inquiries made to both the authorities and insurance companies, there is no such linkage concerning a self-illuminating instrument cluster and road collisions at night.

“In addition, the self-illuminating instrument cluster is featured on other international brands. We are perplexed on why Vaupel’s attacks are only directed at Perodua,” said Aminar.

The Perodua statement also pointed out that Vaupel had claimed that the self-illuminating feature was against international regulations, but had failed to provide any evidence about this.

Perodua also said while it welcomed customers who shared their views and grievances, “however, we do not tolerate unfounded allegations and will take the necessary action to protect our rights.”
