PETALING JAYA: Perodua closed the month of June with 21,250 vehicles sold, its highest monthly sales figure this year and nearly triple that of last month’s.

The carmaker’s year-to-date sales total stands at 74,000 units.

“Perodua managed to sell 8,601 cars in March before the movement control order came into effect on March 18, halting the carmaker’s nationwide operations for two months. Perodua officially restarted nationwide on May 19, managing to sell 7,886 cars before month-end, ” it said in a statement yesterday.

The carmaker added that the government’s sales tax exemption has had many benefits.

“Buyers can enjoy reduced vehicle prices. In Perodua’s case, 3% to 6% less, until end-2020.”

In the same statement, Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said he was positive on the outlook for the local automotive sector and was hopeful that the momentum would continue to help the industry grow.

“We reiterate our commitment to the government as Malaysia’s biggest carmaker by volume, to help the industry and ecosystem wherever we can, including sustaining employment so that we can all get through this difficult time.”
