Not to be confused with the existing Touch 'n Go RFID, PLUS RFiD is a payment system developed by the toll concessionaire for use on the PLUS highway. Currently, the PLUS RFiD is in use at the toll plazas on the Penang Bridge, the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway and in Jitra, Kedah.
Berita Harian reports that PLUS Malaysia Bhd managing director Datuk Azman Ismail had announced that all toll plazas along the PLUS highway are in the process of being upgraded to support the new payment system, which will be completed by the end of this year.
Interested users can get their PLUS RFiD stickers for free at authorised fitment centres. The stickers are embedded with a radio frequency chip, pasted directly on the vehicle's windscreen or headlamp.
The Penang Bridge is one of the few places that uses the PLUS RFiD at present.
Each sticker is unique to the particular vehicle and cannot be duplicated, says the company. The PLUS RFiD tag can be directly linked to users' credit and debit card accounts as well as e-wallets, making it easier for them to monitor their toll payments.
However, the PLUS RFiD sticker is applicable only to vehicles that are not already fitted with the Touch 'n Go RFID sticker.
This is to keep in line with Works Minister Baru Bian's statement that only one RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) sticker will be allowed per vehicle in Malaysia.
"We do not want a situation where users are required to have three or four RFID tags for different highways. The government wants the Touch 'n Go RFID stickers to work at any highway toll booths in the country, and the same is expected of the PLUS RFiD," he was quoted as saying.
